Abstract:The Northern Rhodesia copper mining industry, situated in a small compact area in the Western Province is the economic mainstay of the country The producing mines are Chibuluma, Mufultra, Uchanga, Rhokana, Roan Antelope. Bancroft is expected to' resume production in 1959. The industry is the largest producer of copper in the British Commonwealth and the third largest in the world. In addition to copper, cobalt and uranium are produced. Since the war the emphasis has been on electrolytic copper. The producing costs complete successfully in world markets. Ther are about 400.000 people living in the copperbelt now, directly or indirectly dependent of the mining industry. Table: Productign 1949-1957.
