Abstract: | The premise for this analysis is that traditional theatre cannot effectively be compartmentalized into isolated disciplines of drama, music, dance, language or visual arts. Primary aim here is to examine the sources and treatment of themes, and whether or not these, with respect to their significance to the relevant traditional situation, satisfy what should be regarded as the essential qualities of theatre as drama. Sections: Definitions of drama - Concept and scope - Artistic dimensions of the traditional theatre - Source, theme and realisation - Socio-spiritual communion - Consultation - Sociopolitical commitment - Conclusion.
