Abstract:In 1972 all but a few hundred of Uganda's Asian community had been forced to leave the country. The article examines the Ugandan background and environment of the expulsion and the possible consequences, political and economic, resulting from this abrupt solution to an old problem. The sections are: the roots of conflict: colonial rule in Uganda - the politics of economic nationalism: the africanization of trade in Uganda - the consequences of the Asian exodus: speculation on the future - effect on the Asian community.
