Abstract:An interim report on the methods of financing industry and commerce in the Umgeni Catchment Area of Natal. Two surveys have been made by the Department of Economics of the University of Natal, the first in January, 1965 and the second in September, 1969. This paper is limited to a discussion of the effect that the size of a firm has upon its ability to raise finance and is based on results obtained from the 1965 survey, undertaken before the imposition of any monetary restrictions in the economy. The results of the 1969 survey will be the subject of a later report. The 1965 survey took the form of a questionnaire to a random sample of firms in the area. Notes, tables.
