Abstract: | This article comprises a short note on the traditional system of land tenure and its drawbacks till the Carter Commission on Lands of 1933 and the reallocation of land as practised in 1948 in the North Tetu Division of South Nyeri District. Then follows a discussion of the land consolidation under the auspices of government, in Central Province, in 1955. A short account is given of its actual processes. The following pages deal with ownership of individual titles to lands and its place in African life. A note on the research into African peasant farming undertaken by the Farm Economics Survey Unit concludes this paper. Tables. |
