Abstract:The research on which this article is based and which was carried out over a period of two years (1968-70) attempted to discover whether a relationship might in fact exist between: 1) the trainee's awareness of economic and social change in Kenya and his concept of the teacher's counselling role, 2) the trainee's own economic and social background and his emphasis on counselling responsibility, 3) the trainee's personal sense of responsibility in family and/or community and his assumption of responsibility as a teacher-counsellor.
