| Abstract: | In the 1960's it bacame a common feature to entrench human right provisions in the constitutions of Commonwealth countries when approaching independence. The pattern which these have taken in Zambia is modelled on the Nigerian formula. This paper examines the historical development of human rights and the attitude of the English lawyers. Then follows critical examination of human rights provisions in countries having written constitutions, their limits, and the distinctive features between these rights in Zambia and other Commonwealth States.
