Author:McFadden, PatriciaISNI
Year:1981
Periodical:South African Labour Bulletin
Volume:7
Issue:6-7
Pages:140-166
Language:English
Geographic term:Swaziland - Eswatini
Subject:women's employment
Abstract:First the author shows how commoditisation of the peasantry has not only undermined the viability of the peasant household as an economic unit, but also eroded the status of the peasant women vis-a-vis the means of reproduction. Then, to bring out clearly the true nature of the female section of the Swazi proletariat, the author describes the labour conditions at Libby's Citrus Company, where many women work in the fields as well as in the factory.
