Abstract: | Public agricultural corporations, which are triple partnerships between the government, tenants, and managing boards, represent the core of the agricultural sector in Sudan. They are production-oriented organizations pursuing developmental and social objectives as well as financial ones. At present, managerial performance is evaluated in terms of physical productivity of crops. This is inappropriate and fails to provide relevant information for planning and control. What is needed is an integrated approach that takes into account financial and productivity measures simultaneously and considers them jointly. Such an approach may minimize the incongruences in goals and risks between the different parties involved, as well as resolve incongruences between performance measures at the macroeconomic level and the level of the organization or firm. The practicability and usefulness of an integrated production responsibility centre approach is examined with regard to the Gezira Scheme. Bibliogr., sum. |
