Abstract:Migrant labour is that, where involvement in social relationships of area of employment replaces the social obligations in the rural area; this mean the cassation of movement between town and country in other words permanent urbanisation. The present article deals with the situation, formerly described by Mitchell, and with one particular aspect of it, namely the problems of social security which arise in these circumstances. The teritorial field covered is Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika, and the federate territories of Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland. The present note endeavours to record the awareness of the Government, the employer and the employee to the problems involved, as manifest not only by their declarations of policy, but equally by their actions.
