Abstract:This paper examines the pattern, character, determinants and process of migration in Nigeria as a prelude to the discussion of the role of rural-rural migration in socio-economic change, including rural development within the broader context of the prevailing socio-cultural, economic and demographic situation in the rural areas. Finally, the prevailing migration-responsive and migration-influencing development strategies are reviewed and proposals aimed at formulating more realistic and relevant migration-oriented policies which focus primarily on rural development are briefly outlined.
