Abstract:Examination of the factors which have influenced the demand for money in the Nigerian economy in the period 1960 to 1970 and 1960 to 1966. The author first discusses some theoretical propositions advanced by the various demand for money hypo- theses and then he tests the propositions developed with observed data from the Nigerian economy. Section 1 discusses the theoretical issues surrounding the demand for money controversy; section 2 specifies the functions to be estimated and discusses the data; section 3 summarizes the results. Notes. / Examines the factors which have influenced the demand for money in the 1960s. After a discussion of some theoretical propositions advanced by the various demand for money hypotheses, attempts are made to test the propositions developed with observed data from the Nigerian economy.
