Abstract:A publicist view of the determinants, national interest and ideology of Tanzania's foreign policy, in the context of the Arusha Declaration. Briefly and in general outline is analysed what, if any, has been the impact of the Declaration on the country's foreign policy in this transitional period to socialism and self-reliance. After a short analysis of Part One of the Declaration that stipulates the foreign policy objectives of the Party (hence the Government) follow the sections: Socialism and non-alignment - The independence of one African state is meaningless until all Africa is free - Regional co-operation as a step towards continental unity - Reconstruction needs a peaceful world - The policy in action - Conclusion.
