Abstract:This article is an attempt to synthesize the various revisions of Philip D. Curtin's book 'The Atlantic Slave Trade: A Census' (1969) into a new global estimate. As such it provides both a review of the literature since 1969 and presents a revised set of tables on the volume and direction of the slave trade across the Atlantic: Introduction - The volume of the export trade - The volume of slave imports into the Americas and Atlantic basin - Conclusion.
