Abstract:The causes of traffic congestion in the city of Lagos are examined as a case study. The factors that produce traffic congestion in the city, besides the economic factor, fall into two broad categories - physical and human. The one relates to the physical environment of the city, the nature of the city's road network and the facilities provided in the network; the other to the actions and behaviour of various categories of the population, from the city planners to the general public.
