| Abstract: | Events in the political sphere, notably the emergence of Malawi ('64), Zambia('64), Botswana (t66)m Lesotho ('66), the economic warfare against Rhodesia and the threat of similar measures against the South African Republic, have kindled a new interest in infra-regional economic relationships. From South African viewpoint there are 4 closely interlinked, particularly relevant aspects: economic assistance, investment, trade, labour movements. The incipient study and debate of the issues involved in strenthening - or perhaps distrubing - intra-regional economic links in Southern Africa is hampered by a dearth of factual information. The present article is an effort to provide some such information as far as the Republic's force of foreign Bantu workers is concerned, and also to arrive at a few conclusions relating to wider issues of policy.
