Title:The standardization of the orthography in Rundi
Author:Mioni, AlbertoISNI
Periodical:Journal of the Language Association of Eastern Africa
Geographic term:Burundi
Rundi language
Abstract:This paper was presented at the Conference organized by the Survey of Language Teaching in Eastern Africa, held in December, 1968, at Dar es Salaam. Since independence (1st July, 1962) the two official languages of Burundi have been Rundi and French, but the national language, Rundi, has been steadily gaining ground both in the schools and in the use made of it by the public services. The orthography is not at present standardized; in Burundi, it is more a question of orthographic habits than of an orthographic code. Most of these habits were fixed in the first years of this century. Indicated are the principles on which they are based. Ref., notes.
