Abstract:Abbreviated translation by Moira Miller from 'Aus Deutsch-Ostafrikas Sturm und Drangperiode'. The article is a historical account by the Chief Medical Officer of the German expeditionary forces under Colonel von Schele. Von Schele was the Successor to Governor Soden who had not sufficiaitly appreciated the need for keeping the rebellious tribes in submission by the use of strong military forces. As a result Von Schele had as his first task to send out expeditions, one against the Hehe and the other against Sultan Meli of Moshi. By the beginning of July, 1893, Von Schele undertook the expedition to Kilimanjaro, there to settle accounts with sultan Meli. Photo of the Chagga Sultan Marealle I.
