Abstract: | This article deals with the Kariba Gorge Hydro-electricity Scheme in its consequences of resettling the primitive Batonga and Bawe who formerly lived on the alluvial plain of the Zambesi river. The first people were moved in 1957. In greater detail the effects of resettlement upon the distribution of population, the traditional farming methods of the Batonga and the landscape of northern Matabeleland are examined.
