Abstract:Over 1,200 former inhabitants of the Wadi Halfa area are now installed at Khashm el Girba. The new by the Sudan Government built town is to house the 50,000 citizens of Wadi Halfa, who will lose their homes when the Aswan High Dam comes into operation. The human problems of such a vast migration have not been forgotten in planning the new settlement, and houses in New Faras have been allocated so that former neighbours are still living in the same communities. The cost of the whole resettlement scheme to the Sudan Government, including the construction of the new town and the Dam, and compensation to the settlers, is estimated to be well over £50,000,000. The Roseires Dam Power Plant will be completed by the middle of 1967. The first two generators will be probably installed in 1968. The two generators will have a capacity of 50,000 kilowatts. Seven generators will eventually, be installed at Roseires.
