| Abstract: | This paper focuses upon a specific religious system in a specific social setting. A brief exploration of the relevance and applicability of concepts of social stratification in the analysis of contemporary African societies, with particular reference to the changing patterns of religious behavior, is followed by an attempt to apply some of the most useful among these ideas to the specific situation in contemporary Kampala.
