Abstract: | American multimillionaire Charles Engelhard is a symbol of the fusion of power, money and social status. The reality is that of a power broker with absolute essential financial interests in South Africa, and absolutely vital interests in manipulating politics in the United States. Sometimes very concretely, sometimes with more subtlety, Engelhard and related interests preserve the economic profit structures in South Africa; preserve the profitable status quo situation in which Engelhard's self interest is equated with that of the white capitalists in South Africa and the United States.
