Abstract:In spite of the growing body of literature on power alcohol and the rising numbers of developing countries using this source of energy following the 1973 oil crisis, there are no comprehensive studies on the acquisition of alcohol technology by the developing and accumulation of relevant technological capability. This study builds on analyses that attempt to place the issue of energy technology acquisition in the broader context of international market structure and the changing role of technology in market competition. The study looks at innovation in the power alcohol industry. It outlines some of the implications of technical change on the developing countries. To illustrate some of the issues involved in the process of punctuated technological maturation and the accumulation of technological capability, the study examines alcohol technology acquisition by Zimbabwe and Kenya.
