Abstract: | Survey of the information to be extracted from the day ledger for Sao Jorge da Mina daring the period of Portuguesesoccupation. The ledger is the receipt and expense entries written by Goncalo de Campos, factor of the Portuguese station during the administrations of the captain-generals Joao Vaz de Almada (1526-1529) and Estevao da Gama (1529-1532) and affords a glimpse into the daily and-seasonal pattern of Portuguese-African gold trade during a time when this commerce was still a monopoly of the former and undisturbed by foreign interlopers.
