Abstract: | The examination of the historical sources analyzed by the author in this essay underlines the role played by the valley of wâdî Saura - of which Beni Abbes represents at the moment one of the biggest agglomerations - in the evolution of the cultural and business relations between the mediterranean and atlantic regions of the Maghreb al-Aqsa and the Sahara, particularly from the beginning of the 15th century. From this period and until the end of the 19th century there developed a complex organisation of the territory and of the society based on a sometimes difficult coexistence between sedentary and nomadic peoples. In thi context the religious brotherhoods (particularly the Zayyâniyya and the Kerzâziyya) assume an ever growing role in the political and religious leadership. - Crt., notes, rés. français. |
