Abstract: | Episodes in the lives of two Europeans in Africa are related: Karl Inger (or Emir Abdullahi Ibn Suleyman Inger) and his project to reign over a Muslim Somali-Danakil state in the late 1890s, and the Ethiopian adventure of Leo Frobenius in 1915, both situated in the context of relations between the colonial powers of the time, and the region, Great Britain, France, Germany, and Italy.
