Abstract:African Socialism, as socio-political system rooted in the traditional African social system, is a home-grown African product and differs markedly from scientific socialism which derived from the conditions of industrial development. It may be a commendable attempt to explain some aspects of African anthropology in terms of modern social scientific jargon, but it is far from being a modern method of dealing with the economic problems of promoting agriculture and industrialisation, No single complete theory of the concept of African Socialism exists whatsoever. Advocates of African Socialism mix up two different rent questions: the final aim and the means of achieving this goal. Scientific socialism has to be adapted to the circumstances obtaining now in Africa. There is every prospect of building socialist societies in Africa which are economically, socially and culturally progressive by adopting the basic theory of scientific socialism to the form of the traditional society with substantial modifications to it, but without radical departure from the underlying spirit.
