Abstract: | In South Africa, where there already exists a gap between predominantly Third World workers and a technologically oriented First World industry, it has become absolutely essential that means and ways are found to introduce unskilled workers to a technological work milieu and that effective training programmes are introduced. This article first overviews the most important concepts in induction and training in industry. Secondly, the various aspects of induction in industry are discussed. Thirdly, a number of guidelines are laid down for training in industry, and finally, a few thoughts are expressed on the future of industrial induction and training.
