Abstract:The Botswana government is presently undertaking a country-wide statistical sample survey, called the National Migration Study. In order to provide a fuller picture of migration the statistics of this study need to be supplemented by more detailed case studies and documentary studies. This paper, which is based on lengthy interviews with Botswana workers migration to the South African mines, first shows the migrant workers' own views in their own words, and secondly outlines a more generalised picture of the migrant workers and their situation.
