Abstract: | In 1982 the South African State unveiled its Regional Development Plan, offering wide-ranging concessions that were claimed to be the most attractive in the world: ideal factory conditions and contented labourers working in good surroundings. A survey, however, that the author conducted in the industrial development area of Botshabelo (previously known as Onverwacht) in March 1987 has revealed nothing of the sort. On the contrary, it revealed new levels in the exploitation of workers.
