Abstract:This study utilizes urban household socio-economic survey data to discuss the role of education in the determination of earnings in the private sector of the Sudanese labour markets. The analysis reveals considerable variation in earnings in the Sudan between individuals and segments of the labour market. Specifically, socioeconomic class (SEC) variables play important roles in wage decisions in private industry and self-employment. It is therefore imperative to include the SEC variables in the measurement of income effects of human capital variables in the non-government sectors of the labour market. Finally, the study points to the possibility of defining and measuring the full range of specific circumstances in which human capital variables are important in wage decisions. Bibliogr., notes.
