| Abstract: | The Northern Gurage subgroup of Ethiopian Semitic consists of Soddo (Aymälläl), Gogot (Dobbi), Muxer. This grouping is contrary to the general classification of Gurage hitherto adopted. The author proposes a new classification with three Northern Gurage languages which show the same form of main verb-marker. After comparing a few vocabulary items of Northern and Western Gurage languages he proceeds with: 1. Main verb-markers - 2. Complement pronoun suffixes - 3. Historical aspects - 4. Traces of MVMs elsewhere - 6. Conclusion. Ref., notes, French summary. |
