| Abstract: | A distinctive pottery type found on a number of sites in northwest Ghana and in neighbouring Upper Volta is traditionally attributed to the Dian who now live in and around Diebougou in Upper Volta. A seventeenth and early eighteenth - century date for this pottery in the Lawra area of Ghana is suggested on the basis of oral traditions of the man and other peoples. The hypothesis is put forward in the hope that it may be tested by future excavations in the area. Fig., pl., ref. |
