Abstract: | In 1875-1876 there was an exodus of Dwaben refugees from Asante as a result of the civil war between Dwaben and Asante which followed the 'Sagrenti' War of 1873-1874. The refugees settled in Akyera Abuakwa and the article describes the relations between the new Dwaben community and their 'hosts', the Akyem Abuakwas, for the period 1875-1912 on the one hand, years of relative peace and harmony, on the other, boundary and other forms of land disputes, the question of chiefly or traditional jurisdiction over the Dwaben community in Akyem Abuakwa, and the Akyem debacle at the battle of Boankra in 1900 and its aftermath.
