Abstract: | Matotoka, principal town of the Tane chiefdom, belongs to a group of towns which are linked to the motor roads and whose growth has been stimulated by this contact, but which have now lost impetus. While open to the influence of current developments it tends to play a negative rather than a positive role. This negative role is evident with particular clarity in the field of demography, and is apparent only indirectly in the physical appearance of the town. Notes; figures. |
