Abstract:When anthropologists began to study urban ethnic associations during the late 1950's or the 1960's these were fully developed, forming a complex network which operated at different social levels. In this article the author attempts to trace the origins of Abaluyia ethnic associations in Nakuru and follow them through the various stages of their development up to Independence. As the scope of this article is limited, the author concentrates on the evaluation of the network of urban ethnic associations and the interaction between associations at the different levels. Notes.
