| Abstract: | One of the most frustrating limitations which historians of precolonial Africa confront is the lack of detailed information on individuals other than prominent rulers. Little is known about the specific circumstances which compelled individuals to act as they did or how these individuals interacted. This article illustrates this problem by showing how the very identity of one of the most important Ndebele leaders of the early 19th century has almost been lost to history. Notes. |
