| Abstract: | After a general introduction on body temperature, conduction, convection, radiation, evaporation, physiological reactions to increased environment temperature, acclimatisation, heat pathology, clothing and diet, the author presents on a series of base diagrams relating air temperature and relative humidity to various degrees of comfort or dicomfort the monthly average conditions at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Wadi Halfa, Port Sudan, Khartoum, Malakal and Juba. Upon a further series of diagrams the three-hourly sequence of conditions is shown for very hot days at Wadi Halfa, Port Sudan and Khartoum. Also shown are isopleths of the average diurnal variation in comfort in Khartoum throughout the year and, finally, the average diurnal march of temperature and humidity at Khartoum for the months of January and July. |
