| Abstract: | Most African forest services have paid scant attention to meeting fuel wood requirements, especially of the subsistence farmer, and yet, fuel wood and charcoal are by far the largest end use of wood. The wood option is the cheapest, used the least foreign exchange, and provides the most employment. It is also an insurance against degradation and ensures that the rural population is capable of increasing and sustaining agricultural production. Ref., tab. |
