Title:Regional planning
Author:Adeniyi, Eniola O.
Book title:A Geography of Nigerian Development
Year:1978
Pages:401-410
Language:English
Geographic term:Nigeria
Subject:regional planning
Abstract:The need to pay more attention to regional development, including physical and environmental planning, is fully realised in the Third National Development Plan 1975-80. The problem is how to enhance economic growth at both national and regional levels while at the same time reducing (if not completely removing) the polarization and regional imbalances now noticeable in the space-economy of the country. The author discusses the essence of this type of planning in the country, examines existing development plans in their regional context, and focuses attention on emergent patterns and problems of development as well as recent trends in regional planning in Nigeria.
