| Abstract: | Alamayou, born in 1861, was the son of King Theodore of Abyssinia and Terunish, the daughter of the Ras of Tigre. King Theodore was born about 1818, the son of a minor chief, who was reputed to be of the Queen of Sheba's royal line. Theodore's original name was Kassa. In conflict with the British government Theodore was defeated in 1868 and committed suicide. Alamayou was brought to England where Queen Victoria took a great interest in him. Alamayou died in 1879 and was buried in St. George's Chapel, Windsor. This biographical note is composed out of papers among the Royal Archives at Windsor such as the diary of Queen Victoria, letters from members of her household, and other papers. Ref., photo. |
