Abstract: | In order to find out possible psychopathological features in Nigerian prophets, a comparison was made between a group of prophets and a group of schizophrenics. Eighty individuals were examined, with an equal number of prophets an schizophrenic patients. The prophets were selected from three Aladura churches the Christ Apostolic Church, Cherubim and Seraphim, and the Church of the Lord. The study took into consideration the following characteristics: demographic data, appearance (dressing), behavior (mannerisms), solitude and soliloquy, functioning of the ego, and vision and illusions, it was found that, in spite of obvious overt similarities, there were differences in personality characteristics between the two groups. Conclusion: prophets cannot be seen as schizophrenics because they do not have a split personality. Notes, ref. |
