| Abstract: | Attention is focused on three principal themes: 1) to examine the theoretical bases for regional economic integration with a view to justifying the need for its establishment in developing areas; 2) to explore the extent to which the European experience can be of relevance to the operation of ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States); 3) to examine the extent to which the EEC may also constitute an impediment to the realisation of ECOWAS' objective of regional self-reliance.
