Abstract:H.E. Lambert (1893-1967), the British Swahili scholar, went to East Africa in 1919 and worked for the British colonial administration until he retired in 1950. He worked in Shimoni (Kenya), where he mastered kiVumba, the local dialect of Swahili, and later in Lamu and Nairobi. He studied Swahili language and poetry under Muhammad Kijumwa. This article presents a short biography and a bibliography of Lambert's published writings. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum.
