| Abstract: | In this study of the theory and practice of the non-alignment policy occasionally the attitudes of African political leaders towards this policy are mentioned. Explained are the reasons underlying the rise of the policy of non-alignment, a comparison is made between non-alignment and permanent neutrality, the principles of non-alignment are indicated and analysed. Attention is paid to conferences of non-aligned countries and the position of nonaligned states in the international arena is examined. Concluded is that for Africa, non-alignment must stand on a progressive, socialist economic, social and political order if it is to be a vital, meaningful, and real instrument in the hands of Africans for political, economic and social liberation.
