Abstract: | After a short survey of the development of the radio as an instrument of propaganda and mass indoctrination follows a description of the role radio plays in the political and social life of the Arab countries. Egyptian propaganda, by the Cairo radio, passed through two phases. In the first phase, from July 1952 until November 1954, the efforts were concentrated on Egypt proper. The second phase, from November 1954 until July 1961, shows a turn to Arabism which seemed to be the answer to Egypt's problems. This psychological warfare had to be reviewed when Syria broke away from the U.A.R. The author gives an analysis of this development which explains the sudden changes in policy and attitudes of the Egyptian propaganda. |
