Abstract:[Italian text] Analysis of the social organization of the Baule (Ivory Coast), based upon data collected during two periods of field-work (1981-82 and 1983). The Baule kinship system is characterized by bilateral filiation, with a rather pronounced matrilineal leaning; inheritance is controlled by matrilineal rule. Marriage is a contract devoid of large-scale transfers of material goods, which can easily be broken. The system of double descent should guarantee that an individual belongs to his father's as well as his mother's aulobo, a group of coresidents whose membership is determined more by contingencies and relations of power than by precise and unambiguous rules. In many cases this leads to disputes about the real membership, that is, to the residency of the offspring in the mother's or in the father's aulobo. App., bibliogr., sum. also in French.
