Abstract:By establishing the dialect of articulation and the internal dialect, and their interrelationship, as units of study, it is possible to arrive at an authentic, theoretically principled, historical anthropology. The author applies the dialectical approach to the ethnographic history of the Barolong community in southern Botswana and shows the constructive value of it. Contents: 1) Introduction. 2) The Barolong conuncrum (the Barolong farms: early history - 'dialectical systems': socio-cultural order and political economy - internal forms and external forces). Notes.
