Abstract: | During the last few years the United Nations has adopted various resolutions concerting the internal and international conflicts in Southern Africa. In general, these resolutions deal with the legitimacy of conflicts in and outside South Africa, the status of the persons involved and the treatment they should get. For the purposes of this article, answers to the following questions must be found in these resolutions: What are the conflicts? Who are the persons who must receive the specified treatment? How should they be treated? Sections: Introduction; The United Nations and South Africa (Rhodesia; South West Africa; South Africa) - South African law regarding terrorists - International law requirements - Rebellion and the problem of recognition - Conclusion.
