| Abstract: | This paper discusses the future of Africa in the light of the socio-economic basis of two separately conceived international development strategies which over time have become increasingly closely linked: the New International Economic Order (NIEO) and the Basic Needs Strategy (BNS). The two Strategies are treated as twin-objectives in order to bring out the social context of the debate on these twin international strategies and to try to indicate on this basis the possible NIEO-BNS outcomes in the near future, in particular with regard to Africa.
